This obviously requires i Tunes, and at the moment there is no way to ignore or end i OS software updates from happening on the device itself directly in i OS.Users can stop the i OS software update notifications on an i Phone, i Pad, or i Pod touch but the i OS update will attempt to continue to download itself to the device and harangue the user to install unless some preventative measures are taken.
When you connect an i Phone or i Pad to a computer with i Tunes and an i OS software update is available, you will be notified with a pop-up that tells you a new version of i OS is available and asks if you want to update to the new version of i OS system software.
Additionally, if you click on the “Check for Update” button in i Tunes when an i Phone, i Pad, or i Pod touch is connected, the same i OS software update process begins and the software will download and attempt to install.
The process can be repeated the next time an update is accidentally starting to download, but it always requires quick action.
You must move quick because some software updates are quite small and with a fast internet connection the i OS update will quickly download and start trying to install.
Perhaps a future version of i OS will offer an ability to completely ignore an i OS software update directly on the device, but in the meantime the only way to accomplish this is when the device is connected to a computer with i Tunes.
i OS (formerly i Phone OS) is a mobile operating system created and developed by Apple Inc. It is the operating system that presently powers many of the company's mobile devices, including the i Phone, i Pad, and i Pod Touch. In 2005, when Steve Jobs began planning the i Phone, he had a choice to either "shrink the Mac, which would be an epic feat of engineering, or enlarge the i Pod".Jobs favored the former approach but pitted the Macintosh and i Pod teams, led by Scott Forstall and Tony Fadell, respectively, against each other in an internal competition, with Forstall winning by creating the i Phone OS.The decision enabled the success of the i Phone as a platform for third-party developers: using a well-known desktop operating system as its basis allowed the many third-party Mac developers to write software for the i Phone with minimal retraining.Forstall was also responsible for creating a software development kit for programmers to build i Phone apps, as well as an App Store within i Tunes.Note this actually stops i Tunes from downloading the update and proceeding with the install, it doesn’t just stop the i OS update notification like what is available from on the device.
